OnePlus Nord 2 Review: 5G Flagship Performance at a Budget Price

OnePlus Nord 2 Review: 5G Flagship Performance at a Budget Price

The OnePlus Nord 2 5G makes a compelling case for anyone who wants flagship-level performance without the flagship price tag. Launched in July 2021, it builds on the original Nord with a more powerful processor, a significantly better camera system, and faster charging — all while keeping the price firmly in mid-range territory. Here's everything you need to know.

Design & Display

The Nord 2 features a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with a 2400 x 1080px resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The result is a vibrant, sharp screen that handles everything from streaming to gaming with ease. Thin bezels and a punch-hole front camera keep the design clean and modern, and the in-display fingerprint scanner is fast and well-positioned.

The 90Hz refresh rate delivers noticeably smoother scrolling compared to standard 60Hz displays, and can be dialed back to 60Hz when you want to conserve battery.

Performance

The Nord 2 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI — a significant departure from OnePlus's usual Qualcomm lineup, and a smart one. The Dimensity 1200-AI delivers performance that rivals phones costing significantly more, handling heavy gaming, video streaming, multitasking, and photo editing without hesitation. Benchmark scores sit close to the iPhone 12 Pro and Google Pixel 5, which is remarkable for a mid-range device.

Available in 6GB, 8GB, and 12GB RAM configurations with 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Note: there is no microSD expansion slot.

Software

The Nord 2 ships with Android 11 and OxygenOS — one of the cleanest, most responsive Android skins available. It's light on bloatware, which keeps the phone fast and responsive over time. OnePlus committed to two major Android OS updates (Android 12 and 13) plus ongoing security patches, giving the Nord 2 solid long-term software support for a mid-range device.

Camera System

The Nord 2's triple camera system is one of its strongest selling points. The 50MP main sensor uses the same Sony IMX766 found in the OnePlus 9 — a flagship-grade sensor that delivers excellent detail, dynamic range, and low-light performance. The 8MP ultrawide covers a 119.7-degree field of view, and the 2MP depth sensor assists with portrait shots.

  • 50MP main (Sony IMX766, OIS) — sharp, detailed shots in all lighting conditions
  • 8MP ultrawide (119.7° FOV) — great for landscapes and group shots
  • 2MP depth sensor — portrait mode assistance
  • 32MP front camera — crisp selfies and 1080p video

Video recording tops out at 4K @ 30fps on the rear camera, with gyro-EIS stabilization keeping footage smooth. Nightscape Ultra mode delivers impressive low-light results that punch well above the Nord 2's price point.

Battery & Charging

The 4,500mAh battery comfortably lasts a full day of average to heavy use. What sets the Nord 2 apart is its 65W Warp Charge support — the same fast charging found in the OnePlus 9 series. OnePlus claims 0 to 100% in 30 minutes, and real-world results are close to that. The included 65W charger in the box means you're ready to go out of the box. The one notable omission is wireless charging, which would have been a welcome addition at this price.

Connectivity

The Nord 2 supports dual 5G SIM slots, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6, NFC, and Bluetooth 5.2. USB-C charging and data transfer are standard. The in-display fingerprint reader and Face Unlock provide fast, reliable biometric security.
