Samsung Galaxy A14 5G Review: Is It the Best Budget 5G Phone?

The Samsung Galaxy A14 5G makes a bold promise: flagship-level features at a budget price. With 5G connectivity, a large FHD+ display, a 50MP camera, and a massive battery — all starting at $129 — it's one of the most compelling entry-level smartphones on the market. But does it deliver? Here's our full breakdown.

Design & Build

The Galaxy A14 5G has a clean, modern look with a flat back, no camera bump, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The plastic body keeps costs down but feels more refined than previous A-series models. It's available in Black, Light Green, Dark Red, and Silver — though only Black is currently sold in the US.

At 202g and 9.1mm thick, it's a solid phone that sits comfortably in hand. Don't expect a premium glass feel, but for the price, the build quality is respectable.

Display

The 6.6-inch FHD+ PLS LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate is one of the A14 5G's strongest selling points. At 400 ppi, text and images are sharp, and the 90Hz panel makes scrolling and gaming noticeably smoother than the 60Hz screens found on competing budget phones. It's a significant upgrade over the A13's 720p display.

Performance

The A14 5G ships with either a MediaTek Dimensity 700 or an Exynos 1330 chipset depending on the region, paired with 4GB–8GB of RAM and 64GB–128GB of internal storage. For everyday tasks — browsing, social media, streaming, and light gaming — performance is smooth and reliable. Heavy multitasking or demanding games may push the limits of the base 4GB RAM configuration, so we'd recommend opting for a higher RAM variant if available.

Storage is expandable up to 1TB via a dedicated microSD slot, which is a welcome addition at this price point.

Camera

The triple rear camera system includes a 50MP f/1.8 main sensor with PDAF, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. In good lighting, the main camera produces detailed, well-exposed shots. Low-light performance is adequate for a budget phone, though it won't compete with mid-range flagships. The 13MP front camera handles selfies and video calls well.

Video is capped at 1080p @ 30fps on both front and rear cameras — functional, but not a standout feature.

Battery Life & Charging

The 5,000mAh battery is a highlight. With moderate use, expect a full day and then some — heavy users will still make it through the day comfortably. 15W wired fast charging is supported, though a charger is not included in the box, which is an increasingly common (and frustrating) trend across Samsung's lineup.

5G Connectivity

True to its name, the A14 5G supports Sub-6GHz 5G networks, delivering fast download and upload speeds where coverage is available. As 5G infrastructure continues to expand across the US, having a 5G-ready device at this price is a genuine long-term advantage.

Samsung Galaxy A14 5G vs. Galaxy A13 5G

The A14 5G is a clear step up from the A13 5G. Both share the MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset, but the A14 brings a sharper FHD+ display (vs. 720p), a higher-resolution main camera (50MP vs. 50MP with improved processing), a more modern flat-back design, and a lower starting price. If you're deciding between the two, the A14 5G wins on nearly every front.
