Xiaomi 12 Pro: Discover it's features

Xiaomi 12 Pro: Discover it's features

Xiaomi Mi, which is presently in the third position in the global smartphone market share (12%) after Apple (22%) and Samsung (20%), has recently released a number of high-quality flagship handsets. The Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro, which are based on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, are included in the 12 series, which also contains the 12X model, which is less powerful.

At the end of 2021 Xiaomi announced it's newest flagship smartphone: Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G and also announced that they are will be launching the Xiaomi 12 series globally

Hardware and Design

It's a glass and metal slab that curves to integrate smoothly into an aluminium frame, with Gorilla Glass Victus on the front. The panel is an LTPO 2.0 OLED display, which means the refresh rate can range from 1 to 120 times per second. A camera module is located in the upper left corner of the backside, and an internal Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor is in charge.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro is really well-made, with click buttons and a one-piece sensation in hand. The Xiaomi 12 Pro's design is relatively simple, with nothing showy.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro is a little lighter and slimmer than recent flagships, with a thickness of 8.16mm and a weight of 205g. It is unquestionably a more convenient phone to handle and use with one hand. Ceramic has a luxury feel to it because of the added density it provides.

Display

The display panel of the Xiaomi 12 Pro phones ticks virtually every box currently available in a smartphone display panel: it's a 12-bit, 6.8-inch LTPO 2.0 OLED panel with a refresh rate range of 1Hz to 120Hz, a resolution of 1440 x 3200, and a maximum brightness of 1,500 nits. The phone's software allows the display to lock itself to 60Hz, 90Hz, or 120Hz, and the color output can be modified. It even has Dolby Atmos support.

Xiaomi provides extensive color calibration control as well as the ability to set the refresh rate to 60Hz, 90Hz, or 120Hz. Those of us who enjoy experimenting with things are wonderful additions. The ability to lock to 90Hz is also beneficial since it extends battery life while maintaining relatively fluid animations.

Speakers

The Xiaomi 12 Pro sports a quad-speaker system with a pair of woofers and tweeters. The top and bottom of the chassis are where you'll find these within a speaker grill, which is better than phones that confine one of the speakers to a smidgeon of an earpiece.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro speakers are surprisingly loud but not louder than the speakers on the iPhone 13 Pro Max or the Galaxy S22 Ultra nonetheless, Xiaomi's music is a little richer and has more bass. To unlock the phone, use the fingerprint scanner which also provides a pleasant jolt that you won't find on any other Android device.

Cameras

The Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G features a triple 50MP lens array that covers the standard wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto focal lengths; however, the latter is only a 2x optical zoom. This is a bit disappointing, given that even a previous phone in the series (the Xiaomi 10 Pro) offered a 5x optical zoom.

On the other hand, the main camera is fantastic: Xiaomi Best Smartphones employs Sony's new IMX707 sensor, which has a 1/1.28-inch image sensor. Because the image sensor is so huge, the camera automatically pulls in a lot of light. It combined with pixel-binning technology (the 50MP sensor really produces a 12.5MP image), means the phone rarely needs to utilize night mode unless it's very dark.

The ultra-wide lens also employs four-in-one binning technology to produce images with a reasonable 1.28-micron size, ensuring that photographs are noise-free even in low-light situations. However, pixel peeping shows that these shots are definitely not as sharp as those produced by the primary camera.

At night, the Xiaomi 12 Pro's portrait photographs (which use the telephoto) are better than the Find X5 Pro or Galaxy S22 Ultra.

These additional photo modes, in my opinion, are what make the Xiaomi phone's cameras more enjoyable to use than those on other phones.

Video

The Xiaomi 12 Pro's primary camera provides decent video. In well-lit settings, you can see that the stability, illumination, and audio input are all of the highest quality. There's also a great natural bokeh around the head for a more professional look. The stability isn't the best at night, but the video clip from Xiaomi is noticeably better. The ultra-wide camera performs admirably in well-lit environments, but stabilization and illumination deteriorate greatly at night.

Automatic object tracking is a new video trick that Xiaomi Phones has added to the 12 Pro. This feature is disabled by default; however, if enabled, the camera app on the Xiaomi 12 Pro will instantly lock on to a subject or object and maintain focus even if it moves around the frame. You can use this tool to perform cinematic techniques like rack focus.

Software

MIUI 13 is installed on top of Android 12 on the Xiaomi 12 Pro. While the overall experience is satisfactory, you will find MIUI's animations to be much smoother and more fluid than One UI, which means you can really feel the 120Hz while scrolling and closing apps.

Xiaomi Unlocked Phones has also solved an issue that has been present in MIUI for the past two years: you can now use one-hand mode even when using gesture navigation. Overall, MIUI is a nice-looking UI that doesn't irritate me as much as FunTouch OS.

Overall Performance, Battery Life and Charging

The Xiaomi 12 Pro would be a beast with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and either 8GB or 12GB of RAM, right? That's not the case. While the phone performs well in other situations, the temperature is an issue here.

However, when not subjected to prolonged stress (Geekbench and 3D Mark's shorter Wild Life test), the Xiaomi 12 Pro's available benchmark figures outperform the Galaxy S22 Ultra. And, once again, there was no lag or stutter in everyday use.

The phone's battery life is adequate; it can easily last a whole day without needing to be charged on a workday. The supplied 120W charging brick makes a tremendous difference, as a quick 5-10 minute charge in the late afternoon will easily provide enough juice for an entire night out. With the provided 120W charger, the Xiaomi Phones were charged from 0% to 100% in 25 minutes.

Conclusion

If you're examining for a new Android flagship, the Xiaomi 12 Pro has a lot to offer:

  • A fantastic display that isn't notably inferior to anything else on the market.
  • A high-end SoC.
  • A great main camera.

It also has a helpful IR blaster and rapid charging.

If you want to save money, the Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G is a good priced flaghip smartphone.
