The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 5G (SM-F971B) is a premium foldable smartphone designed to combine the portability of a conventional phone with the expansive viewing and multitasking experience of a tablet. When folded, it measures 123.9 x 81.9 x 9.7 mm and weighs 201 g, while unfolding it reveals a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display measuring 1848 x 2448 pixels with a 403 ppi density and an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. Performance is provided by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, paired with 12 GB of RAM in the 256 GB and 512 GB configurations and 16 GB of RAM in the 1 TB configuration. Samsung officially lists 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB storage options, with availability varying by market. The phone launches with Android 17 and One UI 9, and Samsung states that the Galaxy Z Fold8 is eligible for up to seven generations of OS updates and seven years of security updates. Samsung DeX is supported, making it possible to use the Fold8 as a desktop-style workstation when connected to a compatible external display and accessories.
For photography, the Galaxy Z Fold8 features a dual 50 MP rear camera system consisting of a 50 MP wide-angle camera with Dual Pixel autofocus, optical image stabilization and an f/1.8 aperture, together with a 50 MP ultra-wide camera with an f/1.9 aperture and a 120-degree field of view. Samsung specifies 2x optical-quality zoom and up to 10x digital zoom. Samsung rates the device for up to 26 hours of wireless video playback, although actual battery life varies according to network conditions, usage and other factors. Connectivity includes 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, UWB and USB Type-C, with Dual SIM support through a nano-SIM and eSIM depending on market configuration.
