Description
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra (SM-F976B) is Samsung’s first Ultra-branded foldable smartphone, combining an expansive 8.0-inch foldable display with flagship-level performance, advanced cameras and a large 5,000 mAh battery. When unfolded, the device measures 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.1 mm and weighs approximately 215 g, making it Samsung’s thinnest Galaxy Z Fold to date. When folded, it measures 158.4 x 72.8 x 8.9 mm. The device features an Advanced Armor Aluminum frame, Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 on the cover display, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the rear, and Samsung’s Flex Titanium display structure. It carries an IP48 rating, providing protection against solid particles larger than 1 mm and freshwater immersion up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes under Samsung’s specified laboratory conditions.
The main display is an 8.0-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X foldable panel with a QXGA+ resolution of 2256 x 2504 pixels and a 422 ppi pixel density. It supports an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and reaches a peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. Samsung also uses an anti-reflection finish and Flex Titanium technology to improve durability and reduce the appearance of the foldable display crease. The cover display measures 6.5 inches and uses Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology with a Full HD+ resolution of 2520 x 1080 pixels and 422 ppi. The cover display also supports an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3.
Performance is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, an octa-core, 64-bit mobile platform with processor speeds of up to 4.74 GHz and 3.6 GHz. Samsung lists the platform as being manufactured using a 3 nm process. Storage is available in 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB configurations, with 12 GB of RAM on the 256 GB and 512 GB models and 16 GB of RAM on the 1 TB model. Storage cannot be expanded with a microSD card. The phone launches with Android 17 and Samsung One UI 9 and includes Galaxy AI features designed around the large foldable display, including Circle to Search with Google, Now Brief and Now Nudge.
Photography is one of the major upgrades of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. The rear camera system consists of a 200 MP wide-angle main camera with an f/1.7 aperture, autofocus and optical image stabilization, a 50 MP ultra-wide camera with an f/1.9 aperture and autofocus, and a 10 MP telephoto camera with an f/2.4 aperture, autofocus and optical image stabilization. The telephoto camera provides 3x optical zoom, while Samsung lists up to 10x digital zoom and up to 30x Space Zoom. The camera system is supported by Samsung’s ProVisual Engine, Nightography and AI-powered image-processing features. The Ultra also includes two 10 MP f/2.2 wide-angle front cameras, one positioned on the main display and one on the cover display. Samsung lists a 1/3.33-inch sensor for these front cameras.
For video recording, the rear camera system supports 8K video recording at up to 30 fps, while UHD 4K recording is supported at up to 120 fps. Slow-motion recording is also supported. Samsung’s camera system includes optical image stabilization on the main and telephoto cameras, along with advanced AI-assisted video and photography features. The large 8-inch display provides additional space for editing, multitasking and content creation, while Samsung DeX provides a desktop-style productivity experience.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is equipped with a 5,000 mAh typical-capacity battery, the largest battery Samsung has placed in a Galaxy Z Fold model. It supports up to 45 W wired Super Fast Charging and up to 20 W wireless charging, as well as Wireless PowerShare. Samsung states that the device can reach up to 67% charge in approximately 30 minutes under its specified charging conditions and provides up to 27 hours of video playback. The battery is built in and is not user-removable.
Connectivity includes 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC and Ultra-Wideband. The device supports a Nano-SIM and eSIM configuration, with Dual SIM functionality through SIM 1 plus eSIM or Dual eSIM depending on the regional configuration. Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, Samsung DeX, Galaxy AI, Knox security and a range of multitasking features designed specifically for the expansive foldable display.
