Apple iPhone 14: Leaks and rumours

Apple iPhone 14: Leaks and rumours

In September, Apple regularly releases new iPhones, and we don't think 2022 will be different. Will the Apple iPhone 14, on the other hand, be worth the wait? Apple hasn't revealed anything outright, preferring to keep things as secret as possible until the big reveal. But there will always be leaks and rumours, and at least some will come true.

Below is a list of the most intriguing ideas we've received, ranging from game-changing camera technology to significant design modifications. Even if any of these features make it into the final phones, the iPhone 14 should more than make up for its predecessor's disappointing debut.

All we know about Apple's next-generation iPhone, without further ado.

iPhone 14 Launch Date

If prior launch dates are followed, Apple is expected to reveal the Apple iPhone 14 release date at an event scheduled for September 2022. The first or second week of September is when the majority of iPhone events take place.

Because of pandemic-related delays in China, at least one of the iPhone 14 models is three weeks behind schedule, which indicates that one of the following devices could be delayed or in short supply at launch. According to rumours, the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max is currently being delayed. Still, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the issue is under control and that suppliers would work extra to make up.

iPhone 14: Price

The price of the iPhone 14 is yet to be announced. However, given that the iPhone 13 starts at £679 / $699 / AUS1199, we expect the iPhone 14 will be priced similarly. The iPhone 13 launched in the UK for £20 less than the iPhone 12. Fingers crossed that the downward trend continues, but it is wishful thinking if one rumour is to be believed.

According to sources, it comes from iDropNews, which claims that increasing fees are being explored internally at Apple. The basic iPhone 14 would cost $799, whereas the larger iPhone 14 Max would cost $899 (about £650, AU$1200). That would raise the Pro model's price to $1099, up from $999 for the iPhone 13 Pro, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max's price to $1199, up from $999 for the current iPhone 13 Pro Max.

iPhone 14: Design

A 6.06-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1170 × 2532 pixels will be featured on the iPhone 14 and a resolution of 326 pixels per inch, 460 pixels per inch and a 60Hz refresh rate. The Apple iPhone 14 Pro is expected to have comparable screen specifications; However, the refresh rate is changeable at 120Hz.

According to Apple, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is said to include a 6.68-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, resolution of 1284 x 2778 pixels, and a pixel density of 458 pixels per inch. According to reports, an iPhone 14 Max will also have the same screen specs but a 60Hz refresh rate.

According to another source, the two lower-cost models will be confined to 60Hz panels as the present line-up. However, we've learned that Apple is investigating a 120Hz screen for the iPhone 14 Max but has yet to decide.

A patent has also been filed to make the iPhone screen more demanding without making it thicker.

That would be a helpful feature, but patents are rarely implemented. So don't hold your breath.

Apple iPhone 14: Display

Currently, we expect only the Pro models to have a 120Hz refresh rate, while the less expensive non-Pro devices will only have 60Hz displays. That matches what we've seen with the iPhone 13 series.

According to reports, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max would have always-on displays, which will provide critical information on the screen. In truth, LTPO OLED screens may be able to support such features.

iPhone 14: Camera Technology

The Ultra-Wide camera could be improved on all 2022 iPhones, while the wide-angle camera and telephoto lens on the iPhone 14 Pro versions are significantly enhanced.

When the lighting is excellent, the Apple iPhone 14 Pro models may be able to take full 48-megapixel images. Still, when the lighting is low, it will employ the pixel binning technique to produce a higher-quality 12-megapixel photo that utilises the 48-megapixel lens.

All iPhone 14 models planned this year will have an improved front lens with a wider f/1.9 aperture and focusing capabilities in front camera technology. More light would be able to travel via an enormous gap through the lens and onto the sensor, resulting in more detailed, crisper photographs and a greater depth of field. The improvements to autofocus would help with focus tweaks during video calls.

iPhone 14: Specs and features

The iPhone 13 contains the new A15 chip, so the iPhone 14 is anticipated to have an improved chip. We'll assume the 14 will have the A16. It could be Apple's first 4nm chip, as the A15 is 5nm. Fewer processes lower the real footprint of a chip while also improving efficiency, battery life and performance - in other words, the smaller the nm, the better.

We've heard that the iPhone 14 will be the first to feature a 2TB storage capacity in terms of storage. It's thought that the extra capacity will allow for a higher-resolution camera.

Finally, one feature that fans have been clamouring for may not make it into the iPhone 14. USB-C has made its way into the iPad line-up, with the Pro, Air, and mini adopting the technology in recent years. However, according to some sources, iPhone owners will have to continue to use the Lightning connector for another year. As a result, most external devices will still require the usage of a dongle. However, the rumour claims that the Lightning port will be upgraded, allowing for speedier downloads at USB 3.0 rather than USB 2.0 speeds.

Features

While Apple's ProMotion technology brought a super-smooth 120Hz refresh rate to the iPhone 13 Pro phones, it's expected to be extended to the entire iPhone 14 line-up this year. That would mean that a previously only available function on the iPad Pro would now be available to everyone.

Touch ID may potentially make a comeback, similar to how it did with the iPad Air and iPad mini 6. According to some rumours, the technology could be embedded under the display rather than the power button — albeit this could only apply to the 'Pro' models. It could also not happen at all, and with the iPhone 14, Apple appears to be contemplating a massive U(SB)-turn, finally bringing USB-C to the people. USB-C has been a constant on fans' wishlists for a few years, allowing for faster charging and considerably greater accessory flexibility than Lightning.

Battery

In terms of the battery, there may be room for development. One patent claims that you'll be using a MagSafe charger rather than the Lightning connection when it comes to charging. However, early unauthorised devices show the Lightning port intact. It would be surprising if Apple ditched the Lightning connector on the iPhone 14, but a new EU plan could put it to rest.

Summary

Smoother graphics, faster gesture reactions, and slicker 3D maps appear to be on the cards for consumers. We expect Unlocked Apple Smartphones to put some of that capability into new Augmented Reality apps. Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes the new A16 chipset will be introduced this year, but only in the two higher-end iPhone 14 models. In a tweet, he anticipated that the A16 would be used in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, while the A15 Bionic would be used in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max.

Furthermore, wireless chargers and headphones are becoming the standard. Finally, the iPhone 14 Pro models may have a periscope-style zoom. Apple has already patented a technique that allows lenses to be stacked horizontally rather than vertically, resulting in a significantly greater zoom range.

We are excited to see what Apple will release. Until then, if you have any inquiries don't hesitate to call us at (305) 373-7900 or email us at info@wirelessplace.com.
